SLDC electoral register update emails 2019 - The annual canvass will begin soon and we will write to all households in the South Lakeland area to confirm if the details we hold on the Register of Electors are still correct. This process will allow us to publish a register on 1 December that is as accurate and complete as possible.
The first canvass correspondence will be sent by email on Monday 8 July. These emails are genuine, and contain a link to follow and complete the form online. If the elector completes this form online, we won’t need to send that household a paper form. We expect to send emails for around 19,000 properties.
Paper forms will be sent to those do not have an email address or did not respond to their email throughout July, August and September. Personal canvassers will visit households that have not yet responded to help residents complete their forms at the end of September.
Anyone who is not registered to vote will be invited to do so, and we will be sending large volumes of registration forms by email and post throughout the canvass.
Each year, more and more people choose to respond to their canvass form and/or register to vote online. You can help reduce the financial and environmental cost of the canvass by encouraging your residents to respond to their forms quickly and if possible, online.
If you have any questions about the annual canvass – direct them to Tom Benson (Legal, Governance & Democracy Specialist) at

Scam Council Tax emails - South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) is warning residents to be careful after receiving reports of scam emails being received by residents.

Residents have reported receiving emails claiming to be from SLDC suggesting the recipients are getting or may be eligible to receive Council Tax Reduction. The email contains a link to what appears to be a genuine government website which, once accessed, asks for a lot of sensitive personal information, including bank details and identifying information.
SLDC has reported the scam to Cumbria Constabulary.
Although SLDC does use email to communicate with some residents about certain matters, it will never ask for such personal information in this way.
Some residents may receive an email from SLDC this week about its annual canvass to check the information on its Electoral Register is up to date. This email is genuine - the email address is and the subject line is "DO NOT IGNORE: Your Household Enquiry Form is inside this email."
If you receive a scam email, report it as a "phishing attempt" via the Action Fraud website at
If you have lost money as a result of a scam you should report it to the police as a crime.
Anybody who has any concerns about any communications claiming to be from South Lakeland District Council is encouraged to call the authority on 01539 733 333 for confirmation or to find out more.
