Arnside Cemetery

7 January 2021

Due to weather freezing conditions we are unable to fully open the Cemetery gates to allow vehicle access.  As a result the main gates will remain closed for the time being.  If you wish to visit the Cemetery please be aware that you can enter on foot only via the side gate until the weather improves.

In line with the current Health (Coronavirus Restrictions) (England) (No 4) Regulations 2020

With effect from 5 November 2020

The Cemetery is only open to those attending a funeral or commemorative event, or those paying respects to a member of their household, a family member or friend.

The Cemetery will be re-opened with immediate effect from the hours of approximately 10 am to 4 pm each day.

The side gate only will be open, the main gates will remain closed.

Each of us may take exercise in the fresh air once a day. A walk around the Cemetery can legitimately be part of that exercise for a family member who wishes to visit a grave alone. Please observe social distancing at all times.  Please do not use the Cemetery as a dog walking opportunity.

We will be monitoring the Cemetery use.

Purchasing a Grave
The exclusive rights of burial can be purchased for a full grave plot or a cremation plot for a 100-year period.  It is important to note that the right to bury in a grave is purchased and not the land itself, which remains in the ownership of the council.
At the end of the 100 year period the rights to the grave revert to Arnside Parish Council.
the grave may not be opened/re-opened for burial or interment of ashes without your permission
a memorial may be fixed on the grave and altered or added to only with your permission
Purchases can take place through your chosen funeral director or through the Cemetery contacts.  Please refer to our published charges.
Unpurchased graves
These are graves where no rights to the grave have been purchased i.e. there is no right to use the grave for further interments and a permanent memorial may not be erected.
